SAN JOSE dB SELECTED BY UNIVERSITY OF ASIA AND THE PACIFIC AND BRITISH EMBASSY FOR FREE TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE ON REVENUE GENERATION The University of Asia and the Pacific ( UA&P) Center for Social Responsibility officially informed Mayor Molina last October 1, 2008 that LGU San Jose de Buenavista had been selected to participate in a free Technical Assistance (TA) designed to enhance its capacity to generate revenues using alternative financing sources. The selection came after the town had been shortlisted from 71 pre-qualified municipalities from Luzon and Visayas. Out of 71, only 24 municipalities had been selected from a competitive process conducted by the UA&P and the British Embassy in Manila (BEM). This qualifies San Jose dB to participate in a 5-day training/learning event. The event shall further select 10 pilot municipalities which shall be mentored and coached by UA&P consultants for the next 2 years, free of charge. According to Mayor Molina, this is a very much welcome undertaking considering that the municipality being the capital town has to expand its services and in doing so, it entails huge amount of money. Further he stressed that if qualified as pilot municipality, this will reduce IRA dependency of the LGU and would be an avenue to create and fill in positions necessary to cater to the increasing demands for effective local governance and delivery of basic and social services. |
